About the role
The Plant Chemist & Environmental Tech position plays a crucial role in ensuring the operational integrity and environmental compliance of power plant systems. This position involves monitoring and controlling water chemistry, analyzing samples, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and control water chemistry in various plant systems
- Collect and analyze water, oil, and coal samples from plant systems
- Test, calibrate, and maintain chemical and environmental equipment and instrumentation
- Affirm compliance with various regulatory permits and standards
- Manage laboratory inventory and supplies
- Operate and maintain waste water and potable water plants
- Work a rotating schedule of (4) 10-hour days
- Be prepared to work overtime as needed for plant operations
Requirements
- Minimum Education: BS degree in Chemistry, Biology, or another physical science, or at least 5 years of power plant operations/chemistry experience
- Must be able to obtain necessary licenses and certifications
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with and ability to utilize various laboratory equipment including spectrophotometer, AA, and moisture analyzer
- Excellent interpersonal relationship, oral, and written communication skills
- Advanced problem-solving skills and proficiency on the computer
- Self-motivated, capable of exercising sound judgment related to chemistry decisions
- Willingness to abide by all safety procedures and ability to lift and carry moderate loads (~40lbs)
