Plans Examiner, Senior - Civil
About the role
The Plans Examiner, SR – Civil performs senior-level review of construction documents for compliance with adopted codes, City standards, and applicable state and federal regulations. This position requires independent judgment in interpreting complex submittals, coordinating corrections across departments, and communicating technical requirements to engineers, developers, and contractors. The ideal candidate brings substantial municipal plan review experience in a high-volume environment and is proficient in electronic plan review platforms.
Responsibilities
- Perform senior-level review of construction documents for compliance with adopted codes, City standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Interpret complex submittals and coordinate corrections across departments.
- Communicate technical requirements to engineers, developers, and contractors.
- Broaden understanding of codes and standards through continuous learning and professional development.
- Utilize electronic plan review platforms to manage and track plan reviews efficiently.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution in Architecture, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering or closely related field.
- Three years of experience with construction plan review specific to the job assignment or discipline.
- An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.

They possess a broad understanding of codes and standards and are able to interpret complex submittals and communicate technical requirements effectively.

Pay
Effective June 14, 2026, the salary range for this position will be $77,313.60 - $104,478.40/annually. Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $90,833.60/annually.
