Senior Plans Examiner
Qualifications
- Knowledge of: Principles of civil engineering with emphasis in structural engineering; building construction codes, ordinances and enforcement requirements related to structural, electrical, plumbing, air conditioning and related installations; State and Federal regulations related to building construction, accessibility, and energy requirements; Principles and techniques of building inspection work.
- Ability To Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with persons of diverse backgrounds.
Education And Experience
A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Education: Equivalent to an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering, structural engineering, architecture, building inspection technology or related field.
- Experience: Five years’ experience in the design or review of building construction plans or four years’ experience performing plan checking duties for a public agency. Supervisory experience is desirable.
Licenses And Certifications
- Possession of a valid California Driver License.
- Legacy ICC certification as a combination building inspector, or a minimum of one certification in each trade (building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical).
- ICC certification as a Residential and Commercial Plans Examiner within one year from date of hire.
- CASP Certification is highly desirable.
Additional Information
Physical Demands: Work is performed mostly in office settings. Some outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land use developments, construction sites. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
