Responsibilities
- Perform reviews of site plans, floor plans, and other construction documents to ensure compliance with building and safety codes.
- Interpret building and safety codes and BSD policy objectives, and provide assistance to the public with building code and permitting questions.
- Assist inspectors on projects, coordinate inspection activities, and assist with complex research duties and documentation.
- Answer complex questions on building codes, permitting, and fees for the construction of residential and commercial projects.
- Maintain records management of permitting, inspection files, and records and prepare various data reports.
- Review plans and permit applications for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with administrative procedures.
- Verify plans are in compliance with Pinal County adopted building codes.
- Collaborate with architects, drafting firms, contractors, and homeowners regarding building codes questions.
- Provide answers and guidance to building construction questions and reference building codes.
- Interpret building code and assist with structure design to meet the intent of the building code.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three (3) years of plans examination experience.
- Two (2) of the following certifications: ICC Permit Technician, International Residential Plans Examiner (IRC), Residential Building Inspector, or IBC Plans Examiner at time of hire.
- Valid Driver’s License and Arizona State Driver’s License within 30 days of hire.

- Knowledge of Federal, state, and regional building, housing, and technical codes and regulations.
- Knowledge of building construction principles, practices, materials, and methods.
- Knowledge of current and evolving trends in building technologies and construction methods.
- Skill in interpreting building and safety regulations and comparing them with plans, maps, and technical specifications.
- Ability to provide advice and consultation on compliance requirements.
- Ability to work with representatives of other state and regional planning agencies to address and resolve technical issues.

Pay
The hiring salary for this position is dependent upon experience, qualifications, and position funding; starting salaries above the first quartile require additional approval.
