Planner - Whiting, IN

About the role

Turner Industries Group, LLC is seeking a Mechanical Planner I to join our Project Controls Team at a jobsite in the Whiting, IN area. As a Mechanical Planner, you will leverage relevant experience with equipment, piping, structural steel, and light civil to support industrial maintenance, turnarounds, small capital projects, or a combination of these. Responsibilities include walking down job scope requests, estimating labor hours for multiple disciplines, developing work plans, and creating job plan packages.

Responsibilities

• Review specifications, drawings, and other documents to determine scope of work and required contents of estimates.
• Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoffs of scope of work, including material, outside services, and sub-contractors.
• Review and incorporate historical data into resource and man-hour estimates.
• Estimate extras, change orders, and discovery work items.
• Maintain files of working documents and backup estimate figures.
• Use client Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to identify upcoming installations, maintenance, and repairs.
• Estimate scope of work in terms of direct craft labor hours and duration.
• Perform material take-offs for repair or replace-in-kind work.
• Determine resource and skill requirements for scope of work.
• Document expectations for resource utilization and timing in client ERP system.
• Determine options for scope of work and present scenarios of compatible work packages or combinations of similar scope to the client.
• Document change order requests for deviations on drawings, changes in field conditions, or engineering discrepancies.
• Perform job-walks and collaborate with discipline Subject Matter Experts to develop job steps (activities), craft breakdown, and man-hours required.
• Monitor and document progress of the scope work within the client's ERP system and/or Turner applications.
• Prepare subcontractor work packages for the bid process and work execution.
• Lead Interactive Planning Sessions to bridge Field Supervision and Project Controls buy-in for pre-execution development of schedule and cost deliverables.
• Mentor and coach junior teammates as needed.

Requirements

• Four (4) years of field planning experience in any combination of industrial maintenance, capital projects, and/or outages and turnarounds.
• Four (4) years of jobsite mechanical craft experience or a BS degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related curriculum.
• NCCER certification, craft journeyman, or foreman in industrial construction, maintenance, or turnarounds is a plus.
• Strong background in piping and/or structural work scope planning.
• Ability to estimate material and labor quantities from industrial construction drawings for multiple craft disciplines.
• Proficiency in computer-based MS programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Preferred experience in planning software applications (Turner Applications WinTake®, QuickPlan®, and Win PCS® is a plus).
• Ability to climb and build planning packages from elevated structures.
