Planner I

Job Summary

The Planner I possesses knowledge and expertise in the principles and practices of planning, research, data collection, and analysis. The Planner I is part of a team that develops land use and community plans and studies.

Responsibilities

• Works on both site development projects and land use/community planning processes.
• Applies regulations to real-world field conditions.
• Interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates project assignments.
• Affords assistance in developing land use plans and ordinances.
• Affords assistance and attends public meetings, community engagement or other events (often nights and weekends).
• Reviews or affords assistance in reviewing development site plans and plats.
• Prepares land use petitions for submission.
• Collections a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps for development and land use planning projects.
• Understands local, regional, state, and federal zoning regulatory processes.
• Performs planning activities and works with other staff to move projects toward the final design and construction phases.
• Affords assistance in the preparation of proposals and grant applications.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Architecture preferred.

Work Experience/Qualifications

• 0-2 years of experience required with a bachelors degree/ 3+ years of planning experience required without a degree.
• Possesses effective verbal, written, and presentation skills.
• Interacts with firm, local planning departments, and clients.
• Possesses excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Possesses a strong knowledge of land use planning principles, zoning regulations, and environmental considerations.
• Possesses familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, graphic design, CAD, and GIS systems.
• Ability to conduct research and analyze data.
