Pit Supervisor

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of day-to-day operations, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Assist in the management of the Pit workforce.
  • Responsible for SHE, quality assurance, employee relations, cost control, and budgeting activities.
  • Ensure team members have radios, tools, and safety equipment that are being utilized and functioning at the beginning and during the work day.
  • Daily Tasks: Ensure a good understanding of daily tasks through job briefing and have good radio communication.
  • Evaluate team member’s performance.
  • Order parts only with the approval of Plant Manager.
  • Schedule the loading of trains coming on our site.
  • Manage budgets, ensuring the operating area works within a defined budget and managing costs within set budgetary guidelines.
  • Enforce safety and company policies, conduct pre-shift safety and job briefing meetings, ensure team members are wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), conduct a hazard assessment of the work area, and inform team members of safety hazards found.
  • Manage the operation of the pit and stripping areas, pit and primary equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Coordinate work with all areas of the pit.
  • Ensure production levels are at an optimum with a minimum of downtime and mobile equipment is operated correctly.
  • Create a strong working relationship with suppliers and vendors.
  • Motivate others and effectively accomplish tasks through others is essential.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in supervising production employees, preferably at either an aggregate, sand/gravel, or asphalt plant.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of rock and sand mining, ready-mix concrete, and/or asphalt operations and equipment, MSHA regulations, engineering principles and procedures, and quality control systems and processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to form strong social relationships and effectively communicate with both internal and external audiences.
  • Financial knowledge, possessing knowledge and experience leading financial performance to established targets, meeting or exceeding performance goals.
  • Able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
