Internship Responsibilities

As a Pipe Stress Engineer Intern, you will be assigned to work on a project team and assist the engineering team members in the execution of their project work. These projects may involve the design of new power plants and/or modifications and upgrades to existing power plant systems, components, and structures. Working under the direction of engineers, this position may offer you the opportunity to gain experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Aid in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs
  • Perform quality reviews of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs
  • Aid in the review of design drawings and vendor drawings
  • Directly apply your knowledge of materials, stress analysis, statics, and vibrations

Qualifications

  • Must be actively enrolled in a BS or MS with a major in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Civil Engineering with a strong academic background and an interest in the behavior of materials, stress analysis, statics, and vibrations
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Valued But Not Required Skills And Experience

  • Previous internship or co-op experience in an engineering office
  • Knowledge of any of the following software: MathCAD, AutoPIPE, PipeStress, or ANSYS
  • Enrollment in an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program
  • AI & Automation at Sargent & Lundy
