About the role
The pipewelder welds together piping metal components as specified by blueprints, work orders, or oral instructions. The role utilizes knowledge of working characteristics of metallic and non-metallic materials, including the specifications of the particular equipment to be used in the process.
Responsibilities
- Weld prefabricated piping components using various welding procedures as outlined in blueprints or specifications.
- Chip off excess weld, slag, and splatter using a power grinder, chipping gun, or manual hammer.
Requirements
- Knowledge of pipe welding procedures and safety requirements.
- 3 years of pipe welding experience (vocational training may be accepted).
- In some cases, ABS (American Bureau of Shipbuilding) certification is required, confirming competency in various areas of pipe welding procedures.
