Pipeline Technician

MVP Holdings is a privately owned energy logistics company headquartered in Wichita, KS. MVP and its subsidiaries provide gathering, transportation, processing, storage, distribution, marketing, and other midstream services to independent oil and natural gas producers, refiners, and other market participants throughout the United States.

About the role

This position will maintain and operate crude oil pipelines, pump stations, Lease Automatic Custody Transfer (LACT) measurement, and all associated equipment such as pumps, motor-operated valves, pressure switches, electric motors, transmitters, vibration switches, electronic controls, and pressure regulators in Cunningham, KS.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance of pumps and electric motors, including bearings and seal replacements, alignments, couplings, pumps, fans, and drain piping modifications.
• Maintain and repair other mechanical equipment, including block valves, control valves, air compressors, and valve actuators.
• Preserve facility appearance and safety through remedial and preventative maintenance, as well as good housekeeping practices.
• Perform preventative and general maintenance on electronic and mechanical equipment and associated parts.
• Assist with the replacement of pumps, motors, valves, and other equipment as needed.
• Maintain and operate custody transfer measurement facilities and perform product quality control tests.
• Participate in and successfully complete company, state, and federal training programs, process safety management reviews, safety meetings, and damage control meetings.
• Satisfy initial and requalifying requirements of the company’s operator qualification standards.
• Utilize precision tools and testing equipment.
• Respond to operational emergencies in accordance with company emergency response team procedures.
• Locate pipelines as needed and oversee excavations and line crossings.
• Launch and receive cleaning pigs and assist with launching and cleaning of “smart” pigs.
• Install pipeline markers and routinely inspect the right-of-ways (ROW).
• Maintain and operate corrosion control equipment.
• Interface professionally and competently with private, public, and government landowners.
• Complete other duties and responsibilities as reasonably assigned by management.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• 1+ year(s) of direct oil field experience is preferred.

Skills

• Ability to obtain and maintain all certifications for Operator Qualifications, Safety, and any other regulatory requirements.
• Strong commitment to job safety, understanding company policies and practices, and staying informed of regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and dexterity in the use of tools and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret alignment sheets, schematics, and P&IDs, as well as perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals).
• Proficient in written and verbal English communication.
• Ability and desire to work independently and as part of a team as required.
• Basic computer skills, including spreadsheet and word processing applications, with the technical capacity to learn other software programs as needed.
• Internally motivated to start tasks and projects and committed to following them through to completion.
• Organized; able to manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks and projects effectively.
• Attention to detail and ability to catch errors and inconsistencies in own work.
• Ability to critically evaluate complex situations and make decisions.

Physical Requirements

• Move about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another.

• Operate motor vehicles and drive, on company business, to various worksites and locations.
• Ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, or similar structures.
• Remain in a stationary position, often standing, sitting, kneeling, or crouching for prolonged periods.
• Adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.
• Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands, or fingers.
• Operate machinery or power tools.
• Assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
• Use a computer, read, work with small materials, or other tasks causing eyestrain for a prolonged duration.
• Operate in an indoor/outdoor industrial field environment, often subject to extreme temperatures due to weather and equipment.
• Work in potentially hazardous environments at various project sites.
• Ability to periodically travel for extended periods of time.
• Ability to be available for responding to emergency situations after work hours, nights, weekends, and on-call as needed.
