Pipeline Specialist
About the role
This position is responsible for performing activities related to the construction and maintenance of company facilities, including gas and liquid pipeline-related facilities. It involves assisting with major pipeline construction projects, supervising and managing pipeline relocation projects, and collaborating with regional maintenance staff.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with hot tapping and stopple equipment, valve maintenance, pigging operations, pipe cleaning (internal and external), hydrostatic testing, and leak surveys using flame ionization equipment.
- Leading others, training, developing training, ensuring compliance, supplying financial input, scoping projects, overseeing supervision of contractors and contract workers.
- Mobilizing, operating, and maintaining heavy excavation equipment (hydrovac truck, backhoe, track hoe, side boom, dozer, and maintainers) to excavate in-service natural gas and products pipelines.
- Coordinating and completing pipeline operations and maintenance tasks and projects in support of plant, pipeline, corrosion, measurement, controls, pipeline maintenance, and engineering.
- Inspecting welding operations on pipelines, piping systems, well equipment, tools, support structures, and other equipment; preparing pipelines for encirclement sleeves for anomaly repairs; identifying, reporting, and correcting safety and environmental concerns.
- Performing administrative tasks including ordering and receiving required replacement parts, completing personal time sheets and expense accounts, and maintaining a company vehicle.
- Managing excavation spotter tasks and excavation crossings of lines; operating large truck and trailer hauling equipment required to transport heavy work equipment or project materials to job sites; performing hydrotests as needed; inspecting third-party construction; identifying, reporting, and correcting safety and environmental concerns; and participating in safety programs/initiatives.
- Assisting in planning and coordinating pipeline shutouts involving hot and cold welding; overseeing the construction and/or maintenance activities performed by third parties; identifying, reporting, and correcting safety and environmental concerns; and completing appropriate documentation and paperwork.
- Ensuring performance toward operational excellence; performing all work in compliance with company standards, procedures, and regulatory and tariff requirements; dealing with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism; speaking clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listening carefully; maintaining regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance; and actively participating in safety programs/initiatives.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of three (3) years of industry experience. Five (5) years of work experience can be substituted in lieu of education requirement.
- Knowledge of micrometers, calipers, and thickness testing equipment; ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, and adhere to required work schedules; strong mechanical skills and knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance procedures; experience operating heavy pipeline excavation equipment; ability to read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, and other diagrams; knowledge of equipment operations and servicing; knowledge of basic properties of metals; basic knowledge of pipe SMYS grades and ANSI fitting pressure classes; intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications.
- Achieve and maintain all qualifications and progression requirements applicable to the job classification; achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties (regulatory welding certifications).
- Valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals); ability to plan and organize work for timely completion; experience reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and other diagrams; good verbal and written communication skills; strong customer focus and attention to detail; ability to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job; ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines; ability to organize and prioritize daily work; ability to acquire and maintain related OQ certifications in Natural Gas and Products pipe maintenance activities.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift up to 67 pounds repeatedly, including lifting from floor to waist, waist to shoulder, and overhead positions.
- Ability to carry up to 67 pounds up to a distance of 10 feet.
- Capable of pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 39 pounds over a distance of at least 1 foot to operate valves, equipment, or move materials.
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, often working at heights requiring fall protection.
- Ability to perform bending, twisting, pivoting, and lateral flexion of the lumbar and cervical spine to access work areas and perform tasks.
- Dexterity to operate hand tools such as wrenches, grasp, pinch, and manipulate small components with precision and safety.
- Physical endurance to stand, walk, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions including wet, hot, cold, and windy environments for extended periods.
- Flexibility to work overhead, at knee, waist, and ground levels, often requiring sustained physical effort and balance.
- Ability to work in uneven spaces, often lifting, pulling, or maneuvering heavy or bulky objects over distances up to 20-30 feet.

Compensation
The range for this role is $35.67-$53.46/hr.
