Natural Gas Pipeline Specialist
About the role
This position supports electric generation sites centered around McDonough, GA, with locations near Newnan, GA and Carrollton, GA. The Natural Gas Specialist inspects, supports, and maintains gas facilities at power generation plants. Key responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and supporting pressure control equipment, conducting leak surveys, managing corrosion, overseeing contractors, and ensuring odorant concentrations.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, and tune pneumatic and electric pressure control systems
- Rebuild internal parts in pressure control equipment, such as globe valves, ball valves, and unloading valves
- Complete work reports in a GIS-based work management system
- Monitor and implement strategies to reduce natural gas outages and minimize outage lengths
- Perform odorant concentration tests to ensure proper odorant density in pipeline systems
- Navigate pipeline right-of-ways for leak surveys and patrols
- Change elements in coalescing filters during plant outages
- Communicate with power plant customers to schedule materials and maintenance
- Occasionally perform cathodic protection readings
- Work alongside other technicians, but may perform some tasks alone
- Respond to emergency callouts for equipment malfunctions or failures
- Operate and maintain the Company’s pipeline system serving power generation plants
- Perform valve maintenance, right-of-way patrols, leak surveys, cathodic protection monitoring, and contractor oversight
- Oversee overpressure protection inspections
- First responder to emergency callouts related to leaks or failures in the pipeline
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Pneumatic pressure control experience preferred
- Natural gas facilities maintenance experience required
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Strong written and oral communications and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in using computer programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Basic knowledge of GIS-based management systems
- In-depth knowledge of pressure control technologies and industry best practices
- Understanding of CFR 192 requirements for pipeline compliance
- Understanding of measurement systems, operating software, and administration
- Understanding of communications and systems networking
- Understanding of cathodic protection systems
Travel Requirements
The position requires approximately 75-90% travel within the Southeastern US, including both day trips and overnight stays.
