Job Description

Welders are expected to be able to weld in all positions (flat, vertical and overhead) using stick, TIG, MIG, and Flux Core. They will work with carbon steel, stainless, and exotic materials such as Inconel 800, Alloy 20, Hastelloy, and aluminum. Welders are also expected to layout, install, and repair all types of pipe or similar tubular products in accordance with specifications and plans.

  • Work with pipefitters to plan, layout, install, test, and repair all types of piping systems including relief valves.
  • Help and assist other crafts at levels appropriate with training and skills as requested by supervision.

What Will Be Expected From You?

  • Complete a site Safety Orientation and follow all site safety and environmental policies.
  • Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, assemble weld, and install all types of pipes or similar tubular products.
  • Install supports, valves, and other control equipment, test installed piping systems, and install all other related items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications.
  • Bolt, clamp, or weld parts to secure in position for welding; complete welds according to specific process and code.
  • Utilize all pipe fitting techniques and methods for different types of piping systems and pipe couplings including butt welded, socket welded, threaded, Victaulic, grooved, glued, and fused joints.
  • Follow job site safety and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area.
  • Identify safety hazards to protect self and others.
  • Learn maintenance Welder accountabilities including safing of equipment.
  • Team to identify process problem areas and learn how to communicate them up and through the organization using appropriate means of communication.
  • Read and understand drawings including isometric and orthographic drawings. Visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
  • Participate in shift hand-offs and other key operator communications meetings.
  • Participate in audits, investigations, HAZOPs, PHA's, and quality efforts in the areas.
  • Maintain good housekeeping of equipment, control rooms, and the production areas.
  • Ensure that the activities are carried out to comply with the integrated management system, as applicable (safety, food safety, GMP, health, environmental, quality and responsible care requirements).
  • Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis and an ability to work extra hours if needed. If applicable, ability to work overtime may be needed to ensure required staffing capacity to meet daily production objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with team members with different backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Assists other employees in accomplishing Indorama company goals.
  • Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
  • Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.
  • Participates in and completes company required training programs.

What Are We Looking For in the Ideal Candidate?

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 10 years of pipefitter/welder experience, preferably in a petrochemical or refinery setting, or completion of a Pipefitter/Welder Apprenticeship 5-year program is required.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Effective oral, written, and computer communication skills are required.
  • Knowledge of gaskets, wrench to bolt sizes is necessary.
  • Ability to climb and work at elevated heights is essential.
  • Ability to work overtime (after hours and weekends) and respond to callouts is required.
