Job Summary
About the role
The shop pipefitter will lay out, assemble, install, or maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, or related hydraulic or pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, or industrial production or processing systems in a fabrication shop or yard.
Responsibilities
- Cut, thread, or hammer pipes to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders, or pipe benders
- Lay out full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, or related equipment, according to blueprints
- Assemble or secure pipes, tubes, fittings, or related equipment according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, or threading joints
- Measure and mark pipes for cutting or threading
- Inspect, examine, or test installed systems or pipelines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods
- Secures pipe to structures with brackets, clamps, and hangers using hand tools and power tools
- Performs daily maintenance and safety checks
- Ensures compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
- Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED or Equivalent
- At least 3 to 5 years’ experience as a pipefitter
- Must have NCCER for pipefitter
- Pass hands on test

- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
- Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
- Able to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented
- Able to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Able to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
- Able to work non-routine hours, when necessary

Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
- Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
- Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds
- Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions
