About the role

The specific assignment is for a pipefitter to work on the shipyard’s utility infrastructure piping systems that may include steam, compressed air, city water, gases, sewer, etc. Piping may be located on or in piers, docks, shops, plants, buildings, trenches, tunnels, etc. The job may involve exposure to extreme weather and other environmental conditions encountered in shipbuilding and manufacturing including noise, fumes, chemicals, moving and energized machines, cranes, and systems.

The work includes layout, fabrication, assembly, installation, and the maintenance of piping and piping systems, appurtenances, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial processing systems, on the basis of knowledge or system operation and study of building plans or working drawings. Candidate will be expected to place high priorities on safety and quality-workmanship.

Requirements

Candidates must be able to work at extreme heights or small confined spaces. Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb. Must be able to lift 40 lbs and must take and pass a respirator fit test. Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs.

  • Ability to read and accurately follow written, oral and graphic instructions
  • Solid skills in power and hand tools
  • Ability to work a variable work schedule including overtime

Qualifications

Candidate should be physically fit and able to bend, stoop, kneel, lift and capable of climbing vertical ladders and working at moderate heights.

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Trades school training, familiarity with plumbing and mechanical codes, and Journeyman’s plumbing license is highly desirable
  • Experience in the installation and repair of live mechanical piping systems

Pay

The anticipated salary range is $57,283.20 to $85,196.80. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors, and may vary from the posted range.

Schedule

Full-Time, 1st shift. Candidate should be able to work assigned shift as production needs, including overtime.
