Role Summary
The Commercial Refrigeration Pipefitter is responsible for the installation, fabrication, and maintenance of refrigeration piping systems supporting commercial and supermarket refrigeration equipment. This role works closely with refrigeration technicians and construction teams to ensure piping systems are installed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards, mechanical codes, and manufacturer specifications.
Roles And Responsibilities
- Install, align, measure, and secure refrigeration piping systems for new construction, remodels, and equipment replacements
- Fabricate and assemble copper, steel, and other refrigeration piping using brazing, soldering, threading, and welding techniques
- Lay out and route piping in coordination with refrigeration technicians, electricians, and other trades
- Install valves, fittings, hangers, supports, and insulation per project drawings and specifications
- Absorb pressure testing, evacuation, and charging of refrigeration systems
- Ensure all piping connections are leak-free and meet EPA, mechanical code, and company standards
- Support system start-ups and commissioning as needed
- Inspect piping systems for wear, corrosion, vibration, or damage
- Repair or replace defective piping, valves, fittings, insulation, and supports
- Respond to service calls involving piping failures or refrigerant leaks
- Maintain accurate documentation of materials, piping layouts, and refrigerant-related activities
- Follow OSHA, EPA, and company safety policies for refrigerants, hot work, ladders, and confined spaces
Skills And Qualifications
- 3+ years of pipefitting experience in a commercial or industrial environment
- Strong brazing skills with copper and refrigeration-grade piping
- Working knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems including rack systems, condensers, and evaporators
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and piping diagrams
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to job sites
Preferred Qualifications
- EPA 608 Certification
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Welding experience
