About the Role

The Person’s In Need of Supervision (PINS) Caseworker provides intensive home and community-based preventative services for youth ages 11-18 who are at risk of out-of-home placement. The primary goal is to avoid out-of-home placement and family disruption by addressing serious child/youth misbehavior. The program helps youth identify underlying issues, develop coping skills, reduce school referrals and truancy, and prevent criminal behaviors while becoming productive community members. The Caseworker will manage a caseload of up to ten youth at a time.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a caseload of referred/enrolled program youth.
  • Conducts assessments and intake of referred youth and families within 72 business hours of referral.
  • Provides intensive home and community-based services to families.
  • Actively participates as part of the treatment team and makes referrals to outside agencies in accordance with the treatment plan.
  • Monitors progress and compliance by obtaining regular updates from all service providers.
  • Compiles and maintains all necessary records and completes required documents in a timely manner.
  • Assists in the collection of program data and satisfaction surveys.
  • Attends Court hearings, monthly meetings with JCDSS, school meetings, and other activities as needed.
  • Completes progress notes, discharge reports, and treatment plans in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Assesses barriers to engagement and uses problem-solving strategies to overcome them.
  • Responds to crises in the home or community.
  • Provides in-school support and assists youth in getting to school.
  • Facilitates or provides Life Skills education individually or in group settings.
  • Seeks out volunteer opportunities to promote Community Service and Civic Engagement.

Work Environment

Works both in an office setting and off-site during in-home visits with program participants. Travel throughout Jefferson County is required.

Physical Demands

  • Standing, walking, memory, concentration, and sitting for long periods of time.
  • Hearing, carrying, speaking, writing, bending, pulling, problem-solving, reaching, kneeling, running, seeing, reading, climbing, and pushing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related human service profession.
  • Two years’ experience working with youth at risk.
  • Familiarity with the Family Court System and Department of Social Services.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with co-workers, families, clients, and service providers.
  • Understanding of cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation of children and adolescents.
  • Must maintain privacy of confidential information.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license.

Additional Qualifications

  • Successful completion of routine pre-employment requirements, including employment health requirements, reference checks, criminal background checks/fingerprinting, State Central Registry clearance, and eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Completion of Corporate Compliance, HIPAA Privacy Security, Workplace Harassment and Discrimination Training, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, First Aid, and CPR following the date of hire.

Schedule

Full-time position requiring 37.5 hours per week. Traditional hours are required, along with occasional non-traditional hours. This is a non-exempt, on-site position with in-home visits.
