Pile Driving Superintendent

Orion Marine Construction has immediate openings for Pile Superintendents in Tampa, FL. This position provides marine project leadership and direction, reporting to the Project Manager and overseeing field activities through General Foremen and/or Foremen.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute marine construction projects in collaboration with the Project Manager to ensure successful completion.
• Coordinate project objectives and plans with General Foremen, Foremen, and subcontractors prior to construction.
• Train staff in safety, pile driving, concrete work, and assembly of crane or other hoisting equipment.
• Secure necessary equipment for project completion with the project team.
• Attend pre-construction meetings to monitor project status and understand job scope and schedule.
• Review job schedules and cost breakdowns with the Project Manager to identify potential challenges.
• Maintain a good working relationship with the Project Manager for scheduling materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
• Set up job offices and equipment trailers, ensuring permits, labor notices, safety rules, HR policies, and EEOC materials are posted.
• Work with Human Resources to recruit qualified applicants for craft openings.
• Communicate daily with the General Superintendent or Project Manager to update project status.
• Maintain inventory control over tools and equipment.
• Ensure safety barricades and signs are properly placed with General Foremen and/or Foremen.
• Troubleshoot and problem-solve construction issues as they arise.
• Ensure proper execution of change orders as directed by the Project Manager or Project Superintendent.
• Meet regularly with General Foremen and/or Foremen to monitor project deadlines and progress.
• Inspect project work for quality and compliance with Company standards and government regulations.
• Attend weekly Project Manager meetings to discuss job progress and challenges.
• Monitor project expenditures to ensure they remain under budget.
• Coordinate maintenance of heavy equipment and supervise its effective utilization.
• Perform periodic inspections to ensure standardized construction procedures are followed.
• Meet regularly with the Safety Director to ensure safety equipment and first aid items are present.
• Assist inspectors or auditors during scheduled or unscheduled visits to the jobsite.
• Ensure employees comply with Orion Marine Group Policies & Procedures, EEOC, and regulatory guidelines.
• Hold employees accountable for safe work practices and compliance with safety policies.
• Maintain good housekeeping practices and correct potential safety hazards.
• Secure the project site after work hours and ensure appropriate security measures are in place.
• Provide safety and job-specific training to new employees before field assignments.
• Update the Project Manager regularly on estimated percent completion for each project phase.
• Work closely with the Project Superintendent, Barge Foreman, and skilled craft workers to complete projects safely and environmentally soundly.
• Participate in Safety and Environmental initiatives to comply with State/Federal regulations and improve Company programs.
• Drive regular passenger vehicles to visit work locations and job sites.
• Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary or trade secret information.
• Be responsible for personal safety and the safety of co-workers.
• Stop work on any task if an unsafe condition or situation is observed.
• Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies.
• Report violations of laws, regulations, or Company policies promptly.
• Perform other related administrative and technical duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A minimum of eight years of marine construction piling and concrete experience on work barges or jobsites, or equivalent supervisory experience in marine construction.
• Well-versed in handling equipment used for marine operations and knowledgeable about integrating various crafts (pile driving, crane operations, welding, carpentry, sandblasting, pipefitting, etc.).
• Previous supervisory experience and certification in First Aid and CPR.
• Well-organized to oversee all aspects of the project effectively.
• Able to hold Foremen and crews accountable for safe work practices and performance excellence.
• Foresight to anticipate and avoid potential problems.
• Conscientious attitude toward controlling job costs and adhering to project schedules.
• Ability to influence and motivate Foremen and work crews.
• Excellent communication skills.
