About the role
The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Physiology. We are seeking a dedicated, innovative individual committed to working collaboratively with our faculty to produce the next generation of osteopathic physicians. Our mission is focused on excellence in education, research, clinical care, and service.
Responsibilities
- Teach Physiology to preclinical medical students and post-baccalaureate students
- Create lectures, lecture notes, learning objectives, Power Point slides, exam questions, and syllabi
- Participate in curriculum development and evaluation
- Serve on committees, as assigned
- Act as a content expert in the area of expertise
- Facilitate Problem-Based Learning (PBL)
- Interview prospective candidates for the College of Medicine (COM)
- Advise and mentor assigned students, providing counseling and guidance
- Serve as advisor to at least one student club
- Prepare demonstrations, small group discussions, and select suggested and required reading from various sources, and coordinate these educational tools with other faculty members
- Prepare evaluation tools to aid in the evaluation of students' work progress and help identify students needing support
- Attend "Team" meetings approved by COM that advance your profession
- Contribute to and be responsible for overall student success, including advising and student outcomes
- Contribute to the Mission of LECOM by assisting with Institutional fundraising and participating in the LECOM Scholarship Auction
- Engage in scholarly activity to enrich and broaden the student learning experience
- Represent LECOM by being actively involved in the community, including serving on boards, participating in community fundraisers, and outreach
- Accept direction and assignments from the Associate Dean of Pre-Clinical Education
- Be available for work during assigned hours, for student instruction
- Accept other duties assigned/needed for the Institution's needs
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Physiology with previous teaching experience in medically-oriented Physiology at the medical college level
- Strong evidence of research productivity and potential for obtaining extramural research funding
- A strong desire to teach in a student-centered environment using innovative methods
- Excellent organizational, communication, teaching, and decision-making skills
Qualifications
- Knowledge of student and patient privacy (FERPA, HIPAA)
- Ability to follow proper OSHA and safety guidelines, protect equipment, and maintain confidentiality of work-related information
- Computer literacy (MS Office Suite)
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Training and certification on the Institutional Data System
- Flexibility to accept other duties needed/assigned for the COM
- The ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others, maintaining a workplace of dignity and respect
- The ability to report to work as scheduled, ready to devote full attention and energy to the important work of LECOM
- The ability to accept work directives from managers and supervisors respectfully and cooperatively
