Madera Community College seeks an equity-minded Physics Instructor to teach part-time on campus and/or at off-site community locations. The successful candidate will:

Responsibilities

• Teach a part-time schedule of Physics courses as assigned.
• Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate innovative instructional technologies for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
• Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
• Employ effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter, adhering to institutionally approved curriculum.
• Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, and oral responses.
• Provide course syllabi to students and maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
• Submit all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
• Teach in various instructional settings and times, including as needed.
• Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

All candidates must demonstrate:

• Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to equity-minded practice.
• One of the following qualifications:
  • Master’s in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics; or
  • Bachelor’s in physics or astronomy and Master’s in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics; or
  • A valid California Community College Credential; or
  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency petition).

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
• Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students, with an understanding of historical exclusion patterns in higher education.
• Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to support racially minoritized students.
• Related work and professional experience.
• Experience working with students of diverse cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
• Experience supporting traditionally underrepresented student populations, such as students of color and foster youth.
• Experience facilitating multicultural and cross-cultural communication with sensitivity.
• Experience with and sensitivity to under-prepared and high-need students at the community college.
• Ability and desire to work collaboratively to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success.
• Ability to use computers and other technologies for high-quality instruction.
• Effective communication skills with students and staff.
• Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials.
• Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Pay

• Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
• Salary classification placements are based on education and experience as outlined in the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
• Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
