Responsibilities
- Performs psychiatric evaluations for a diverse population - including geriatric and post deployment combat Veterans - who are mentally ill and have psychosocial issues such as homelessness - unemployment - and poor family support network
- Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including diagnostic assessment - medication evaluation and management - suicide risk assessments - crisis intervention - psychotherapy - and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders
- Modalities for patient care include face-to-face - tele-video - and phone calls as clinically appropriate
- Maintains appropriate licensing and board certifications as applicable
- Participates effectively in team meetings and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to enhance coordination of comprehensive patient care
- Functioning as part of a psychiatric care team working with other physicians - PA's - APN's - nurses - Psychologist - LCSW & other team members
- Works as collaborating physician with PA's and APN's as necessary
- Orders diagnostic tests and consultations
- Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions
- May participate in supervision and teaching in support of medical students and residents in training
- Outpatient: 1 hour provided for new patients - 30 minutes for follow ups
- Inpatient (if applicable): working with interdisciplinary team including PA - SW - nursing - and others on inpatient unit
- Management of psychiatric inpatients from admit to discharge - with assistance of PA's
- Documentation including psychiatric evaluations - suicide risk assessments - daily progress notes - and others as applicable
- Provide administrative supervision to a team of MH providers at assigned location
