Supervising Psychiatrist (Supervising Physician)

About the role

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) seeks a Supervising Psychiatrist (Supervising Physician) to lead, support, and coordinate activities of subordinate psychiatric physicians and nurse practitioners at the Oregon State Hospital, Salem Campus. This role involves ensuring compliance with various regulations and standards, collaborating with other clinical disciplines, and overseeing clinical processes.

Responsibilities

• Leads, supports, and coordinates activities of subordinate psychiatric physicians and nurse practitioners.
• Affirms compliance with Federal and State laws, Administrative Rules, Joint Commission and CMS standards, OSH policies, and professional standards of practice.
• Serves as a primary physician on units when resource needs require.
• Collaborates with associate chiefs in other clinical disciplines and the program director to ensure effective and efficient clinical processes.
• Oversight of program-wide, unit-wide, and individual patient processes and treatment provided.

Requirements

• Board certification in general psychiatry at the time of appointment.
• Physician’s license issued by the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners at the time of appointment and maintained throughout employment.
• 3 years minimum experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of psychiatric care, including forensic and complex clinical cases.
• Experience guiding, mentoring, and supporting psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners.
• Experience balancing clinical and administrative responsibilities.
• Experience thriving in a dynamic hospital setting.
• Experience leading risk management initiatives and structured pathways for forensic patients.

Skills

The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge of psychiatric care, including forensic and complex clinical cases, with the ability to provide high-level consultation and direct treatment when needed. They should also have experience guiding, mentoring, and supporting psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners, balancing clinical and administrative responsibilities, and leading risk management initiatives.

$29,003 - $31,825 per month
