Physician (Staff) Geriatrics and Extended Care Program/CLC
About the role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
Responsibilities
- Performs clinical care of older patients with multiple complex health problems in a long-term care setting.
- Works collaboratively with other physicians, Nurse Practitioners, physician assistants.
- Supervises/teaches geriatrics fellows, medical residents, and trainees in other health related disciplines.
- Collaborates with the Medical Director in maintaining quality assurance and administrative needs in the nursing home care setting.
- Collaborates with other healthcare disciplines, especially nursing.
- Quality for a faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level or higher at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).
- Communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
- Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
- Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
- Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, Federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy.
- Protects the data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion.
- Uses word processing software to execute several office automations functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files; activating printers; inserting and deleting text, formatting letters, reports, and memoranda; and transmitting and receiving e-mail.
- Uses the Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (VistA) to access information in the Medical Center Computer System.
- Demonstrates infection control practices for disease prevention (i.e. hand washing, universal precautions/isolation procedures, including TB requirement/precautions).
Requirements
The physician must have full, current, and unrestricted medical license to practice. Must be Board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine and have knowledge and experience in caring for older patients or patients in long-term care setting.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Prior Experience
- Board-certified physician in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine with Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine or experience in long term care for the position of a staff physician in Geriatrics and Extended Care Program/CLC.
