About the role

The Behavioral Health team at Essentia Health is seeking a psychiatrist to provide behavioral health services to patients across the local and outlying communities. This role will involve outpatient practice with the potential for rotating inpatient/ED consults.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting health screenings and psychiatric evaluations.
  • Prescribing, monitoring, managing, and evaluating psychopharmacological medications.
  • Providing integrated mental health services in general health settings.
  • Collaborating with other psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, nurse practitioners, and support staff.
  • Soliciting consultation and referring patients to other providers when necessary.
  • Collaborating with other departments and specialties when appropriate in order to effectively and ethically treat patients with complex medical needs and comorbid mental health concerns.

Requirements

  • MD degree with Board Certification or Board Eligibility in psychiatry.
  • ABPP certification preferred, though not required.
  • Child/adolescent certification preferred, though not required.
  • Successful completion of Essentia Health credentialing process prior to practice.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships and use tact, discretion, and diplomacy when working with others.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused in a busy environment.
  • Use of good judgment in emergency situations.
  • Keyboard skills and basic computer skills.

  • Advanced health assessment, knowledge, and decision-making skills.
  • Working both independently and in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals.
  • Building rapport and prescribing medications, emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Able to establish and enhance positive relationships with patients, co-workers, and others.
