About the role
The North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health Care System's Mental Health Service is searching for a full-time Psychiatrist at their Gainesville 1 VA Clinic on SW 34th Street in Gainesville, FL.
Responsibilities
- Providing general adult psychiatric care.
- Conducting diagnostic evaluations, psychiatric consultations, medication management, and individual or group psychotherapy; may also be expected to provide direct clinical supervision of advanced practice nurses or physician assistants and other staff as appropriate.
- Establishing professional working relationships with other clinical service providers within the medical center and outlying clinics.
- Providing telephone and e-consult consultations as needed, and cooperating with and participating in medical duties or functions related to quality of care, peer review, and performance improvement activities as directed.
- Working a flexible schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor).
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completed residency training in psychiatry approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
- Proficient in written and spoken English.
- Pass a pre-employment physical examination.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
- Completed residency training in psychiatry approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
- Must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d).
- Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
