Physician - Psychiatrist

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Qualifications

• To qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.
• Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
• Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Duties

• We are looking for a psychiatrist at Central Virginia Veterans Affairs Health Care System in Richmond, Virginia.
• The psychiatrist serves as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team with specialized expertise in medication management of mental disorders.
• The Richmond VA Medical Center is a level 1a 349-bed facility offering primary - secondary - and tertiary health care in medicine - surgery - neurology - rehabilitation medicine - intermediate care - acute and sustaining spinal cord injury - skilled nursing home care - and palliative care.
• There are four community-based outpatient clinics located in Charlottesville - Emporia - Fredericksburg - and Henrico County, Virginia - and a strong affiliation with Virginia Commonwealth University.

The duties and responsibilities of the Psychiatrist include - but are not limited to the following:

• Obtain information from the medical record and collateral sources.
• Conduct history and mental status examinations.
• Formulate diagnostic and suicide risk assessments.
• Order labs - imaging studies - and consultations.
• Complete clinical reminders and screens.
• Document in the electronic health record.
• Develop treatment plans including safety plans.
• Provide psychotherapy and medication management services.
• Respond to emergency clinical situations.
• Provide expert opinions for civil commitment proceedings.
• Attend huddles and interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.
• Respond to secure messages - return calls - and respond to requests for information.
• Receive and complete consultations.
• Provide services in person and via telehealth.
• May take call (cover the psychiatry unit - the emergency department - and consult service).
• Work Schedule: Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
• Call is voluntary currently and may be subject to change depending on service line needs.
