Physician - PRN

About the Role

Under the administrative supervision of the Regional Medical Director and Center Medical Director, the Physician provides healthcare services to patients in clinic according to the established principles of clinical practice.

Organizational Duties and Responsibilities

• Supports the values, mission, and vision of MBI Industrial Medicine, Inc., as evidenced by compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.
• Supports the facility's positive interaction with others through professional maturity, respect, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information, and appreciation of diversity.
• Exhibits effective communication skills, including proper use of corporate communication systems and chain of command.
• Supports the strategic plan of MBI Industrial Medicine, Inc., by implementing organizational goals, mission, and values in daily practice.
• Participates in strategic planning activities as requested by the Center or State medical leader.
• Serves as a leader in the clinic, partnering with the Clinic Administrator and Center Medical Director to promote optimal patient outcomes, work processes, and staff engagement.

Responsibilities

• Provides healthcare to patients both in-clinic and via telemedicine according to established clinical practice principles.
• Oversees any Advanced Practice Provider (APP) at the clinic location, including providing recommendations on clinical management and treatment plans when the Center Medical Director is unavailable.
• Performs complete history and physical exams to determine capacity to safely perform specified job functions.
• Provides medical opinions regarding job accommodations if needed.
• Participates in the legal process of workers’ compensation, including Sam’s calls, depositions, and testifying in hearings when requested.
• Performs Fit for Duty and Return to Work evaluations.
• Evaluates and manages the following conditions:
  • Common occupational musculoskeletal injuries of the neck, back, and upper and lower extremities.
  • Work-related injuries to the head with or without loss of consciousness (assuming the individual is currently conscious and alert).
  • Work-related injuries to the chest or abdomen, including hernias.
  • Work-related lacerations of the face, scalp, and extremities.
  • Work-related eye injuries, including foreign bodies, non-penetrating injuries, and chemical exposures.
  • Work-related rashes and other occupational skin conditions.
  • Occupational asthma and other work-related respiratory symptoms.
  • Non-displaced uncomplicated fractures, including interpreting radiographs, splinting, and orthopedic referral when appropriate.
• Performs complete and accurate history and physical exams, including detailed documentation of work-related complaints, mechanism of injury, and activity limitations.
• Prescribes appropriate medications and therapy.
• Orders and interprets radiographs.
• Refers for specialized testing such as MRI or EMG as necessary.
• Refers for specialty care as appropriate.
• Identifies appropriate limitations for activity at home and work.
• Renders opinions regarding causality and work-relatedness.
• Communicates with employers at the completion of the first visit to review the treatment plan and work capacity of the patient, and as needed throughout the case.
• Performs treadmill stress tests (preferred).

Requirements

• MD or DO degree.
• Unrestricted Arizona Medical Licensure with no active stipulations.
• Active full DEA license.
• Current BLS certification.
• FMCSA certified for DOT exams within 90 days of hire.
• Board Certification in primary specialty preferred but not required (Occupational Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Orthopedics).
• MRO certification preferred.
• Solid, demonstrated knowledge of the practice and application of occupational medicine.
• Working knowledge of laws and regulations governing rehabilitation services, workers’ compensation, and clinical procedures.
• Working knowledge of medical office administration and procedures.
• Sound administration and management skills.
• Ability to instruct, teach, and correct with a confident and professional demeanor.
