Physician (Primary Care - Vineland)

About the role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

• Works as a member of a primary care team consisting of clerical staff, nurses, physicians, social workers, and clinical pharmacists.
• Provides or coordinates all aspects of the patient's care including preventive, urgent, and routine care including women's healthcare.
• Provides effective care to patients characterized by using sound judgment in assessing, planning, implementing, documenting and evaluating patient care for assigned patients.
• Comprehensive, continuous, and covers preventative and psycho-social aspects of patient management.
• Maintains access, quality, efficiency, satisfaction, and other standards of performance established by the Veterans Health Administration.
• Orders appropriate diagnostic studies, interprets and analyzes medical data, establishes diagnoses, formulates and implements treatment plans, and modifies treatment plans.
• Orders subspecialty consults, tests, prosthetic requests, completes forms on veterans' behalf that are within the treatment purview of the incumbent, and performs other clinical duties as directed and deemed by the Service Chief to be appropriate and in the interest of the Veteran.
• References quality improvement information and organizes patient care needs to assure safe, efficient, and cost-effective care and initiates effective actions in emergencies.
• Delivers care in person, by VVC, or via telephone, and actively participates in the provision of telemedicine care to outlying communities as well as occasional travel to other VA clinics to provide clinical coverage.

Requirements

• Treats opiate use disorder with buprenorphine therapy (training available) in consultation with Behavioral Health.
• Treats Geriatric Primary Care patients and is encouraged to apply for implementation of a Geriatric Primary Care panel (encouraged but not required).
• Engages in Women's Health treatment, hypertension management, and diabetes management.
• Treats opiate use disorder with buprenorphine therapy (with training available) in consultation with Behavioral Health.
• Supports residency training of affiliated medical Universities and programs.

Qualifications

• Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
• One Year of VHA Primary Care Experience or 3 years of non-VHA Primary Care Experience.
• Board Eligible / Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice preferred.

Qualifications

• Basic Requirements:
• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Additional Requirement: One Year of VHA Primary Care Experience or 3 years of non-VHA Primary Care Experience. Preferred Experience: Board Eligible / Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice
• Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, 15-44 lbs; light lifting, under 15 lbs; moderate carrying, 15-44 lbs; reaching above shoulders; use of fingers; both hands required; walking 6-8 hours; standing 6-8 hours; both legs required; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other; both eyes required; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted) min 15/20 one ear and mental and emotional stability required.
• Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
