Physician - Primary Care

About the role

The Iowa City Veterans Affairs Health Care System (ICVAHCS) is seeking a Full-Time, Physician to join the Primary Care Service Line at the VA Clinic Burlington, Iowa.

Note: This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT through September 4, 2026. The first referral cut-off is July 6, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EST, with monthly cut-offs on the 1st. Applications received after each cut-off will be reviewed as needed until the position is filled.

Responsibilities

• Deliver primary care to patients enrolled in their panels at the Iowa City VA Healthcare System.
• Manage scheduled and unscheduled patients in the outpatient clinic setting.
• Manage a panel of patients, with panel size determined by VHA PCMM software.
• May be assigned to manage a subsection of primary care patients, either by disease status or demographic status.
• Provide clinical oversight and review for mid-level providers.
• Act as a surrogate for colleagues on leave.
• Follow departmental and VHA policies for leave and attendance.
• Ensure timely documentation and quality of care.
• Work within departmental and VHA policies for leave and attendance.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship
• Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Qualifications

• Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
• Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
