Physician - Podiatric Medicine

About the role

The Physician - Podiatric Medicine is responsible for providing direct and appropriate clinical care and treatment to Central Health patients in the specialty area of Podiatry. The Physician - Podiatric Medicine time allocation is as follows 1.0 FTE dedicated to the responsibilities outlined above. This position is considered on site.

Responsibilities

• Provide Podiatry care to primary care and referred patients.
• Plan, promote, demonstrate, recommend and coordinate high standards of Podiatric medical practice.
• Demonstrated expertise in relevant medical practices, protocol, trends and best practices in clinical areas assigned.
• Prepare and review medical histories and obtain data through interviews.
• Examine patients, formulate diagnostic plans, define and order required diagnostic testing.
• Interpret examination findings and test results, and implement treatment plans.
• Determine need for consultation and assists in medical care and treatment provided at the direction of other specialists.
• Participate in other care procedures according to training and demonstrated ability.
• Observe that communications with patients are culturally and linguistically appropriate.
• Interview patient, obtain patient history, update all information and documents in EHR according to standards.
• Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise
• Provide consultation to the nurses and clinical staff.
• Consult with other staff physicians and para-medical personnel regarding medical management of patients and common podiatry problems encountered in the clinic.
• Confer on the planning and direction of the primary care team as it relates to the podiatry.
• Perform surgeries and surgical care in Ancillary Surgery Center or hospital settings.
• Perform procedures such as nail debridement, callus trimmings, wart excision, ingrown nail excision, injection therapy, excision cutaneous skin lesions, nail matrixectomy/avulsions, skin ulcer treatment, strapping/taping of the foot and ankle, and closed reductions of minor foot fractures.
• Use of Diagnostic Ultrasound (US guided injections, diagnosis of Soft tissue masses)

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION: D.P.M. from an accredited college of podiatric medicine. Completion of a residency acceptable to the Texas Podiatry Licensing Board. Completion of an accredited residency in Podiatric Surgery.

Certifications/Licensure

• Unrestricted licensed to practice Podiatric Medicine and surgery in the State of Texas.
• Board Certification by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery or the American Board of Podiatric Medicine or Board Qualification followed by passage of Board Certification examination within two (2) years of employment.
• Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number for the purpose of writing prescriptions.
• Current Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) through American Heart Association
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers through American Heart Association.
