About the role

The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center's Pathology and Laboratory Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Pathologist. Ideal candidates are those who wish to contribute to achieving quality care standards and the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. Applicants must be excellent communicators and team players.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in the accreditation of the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service by CAP, JCAHO, and AABB, and Blood Bank licensure by FDA.
  • Assist in the gross review and dictation of surgical pathology specimens, including dissection, selection, and interpretation of routine and special stains, and notification of significant abnormalities.
  • Perform and interpret cytological pathology, including adequacy exams at interventional procedures, and report microscopic findings.
  • Conduct autopsies, review patient charts, assist in prosection, request special cultures or stains, and report preliminary and final diagnoses.
  • Supervise and oversee the Blood Bank, ensuring compliance with CAP, AABB, and FDA regulations.
  • Present Transfusion reports to the Patient Care Review Committee as required.
  • Provide technical oversight for clinical laboratory sections, if necessary.
  • Participate in educational activities such as tumor board and Morbidity & Mortality conferences, photography of microscopic images for conferences, quality improvement activities, accreditation activities, and other contemporary services as needed.

Requirements

  • Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the United States.
  • Completion of residency training in an approved core specialty program leading to board certification.
  • Proven proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from an approved medical or osteopathic medical course of study.
  • Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery.
  • Completed residency training in an approved program.
  • Experience in surgical pathology, cytology, and autopsy.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
