Physician (Infectious Diseases)

About the role

The Kansas City VA Medical Center is seeking an experienced Infectious Diseases Physician to provide comprehensive, efficient, and evidence-based care and treatments to patients presenting with infectious diseases in an outpatient clinical setting and offer consultation services in an inpatient setting or emergent needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based care in an outpatient clinical setting and provide consultation services in an inpatient setting or emergent need.
• Provide telephone and e-consult consultations as needed.
• Diagnose and treat adult patients presenting with infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, illness after travel, diseases resistant to treatment, Lyme disease, and Hepatitis B and C.
• Participate in clinical on-call schedule.
• Participate in the infection prevention and control program and antibiotic stewardship initiatives.
• Monitor patients' progress throughout treatment, manage side effects, and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
• Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive patient care.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary staff to identify, communicate, and resolve issues related to the Infectious Disease section, Medical Center ancillary and support operations, and VISN-wide mandates.
• Participate in quality assurance activities, including data collection, analysis, and reporting on changes based on data collected.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Board Certified in Infectious Disease (preferred).
• Visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity.
• Potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, pushing, and lifting of at least 35 pounds.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Board Certified in Infectious Disease (preferred).
