Responsibilities
- Duties require incumbent to be board certified or eligible in Family Medicine; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified, and be able to perform said protocols outlined therein in a manner which is unsupervised.
- Takes ownership, responsibility for care of assigned panel of patients.
- Provides first contact, continuous, comprehensive primary care for infants, children, youth, and/or adults according to current standards of care, the patient centered medical home model of care, and military policy and relevant regulations.
- Provides care, advice, and referral coordination via telephone and secure messaging as appropriate.
- Mets targets for productivity established for the department.
- Provides diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic services to patients primarily in the Department of Primary Care.
- Performs military specific medical tasks, including (but not limited to) periodic physical exams, follow-up for health issues identified during Post-Deployment Health Reassessment, temporary and permanent profiles, fitness-for-duty evaluations, medical boards.
- Performs procedures within scope of practice and scope of care for the Department of Primary Care.
- Physician must have or willing to be trained to attain a working knowledge of computer systems which are required in the performance of daily tasks.
- Provides direction/oversight to the assigned medical staff on duty within the Department of Primary Care when the incumbent of this position is on duty.
- Provides medical supervision for the coordination of care obtained from outside civilian and non-civilian hospitals/nursing homes.
- Must understand the medical mission necessary to support the Department of Primary Care.
- Works closely with the Performance Improvement Program to reduce patient complaints and enhance the image of medical services available.
- Captures and coordinates care obtained from ancillary care areas, i.e., Radiology, Pathology, Pharmacy, Nutritional Care, Rehabilitation Services and Occupational Health.
- Participates in training courses at the hospital as a participant and/or instructor.
Qualifications
- Education: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada.
- Licensure: Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Residency Training: Successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Family Medicine) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years.
- Board Certification: Required.
- Basic Requirement: Basic medical degree from an accredited school in the United States or Canada.
