Basic Requirements

  • United States Citizenship
  • Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia
  • Completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
  • Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Additional Requirements

  • Approved residencies are:
  • (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education - the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) - in the list published for the year the residency - or fellowship if applicable - was completed
  • (2) One year of post medical school training (internship - first year of residency - or transitional year residency) approved by ACGME or AOA followed by two years of post-training independent practice (performing under a full and unrestricted license) in the United States
  • (3) Non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States (performing under a full and unrestricted license) performing duties related to the position they are applying for (United States fellowships would be creditable towards this requirement)
  • Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as ""Physician Resident Providers"" (PRPs)
  • Surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs
  • In rare and unusual circumstances - the Facility Director can submit a memo to the VISN Director through the VISN Chief Medical Officer - who may approve requests for reasonable exceptions to the residency training requirement for Physicians whose composite record of experience - accomplishments - performance - and qualifications warrant such action

Physical Requirements

  • Pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019
  • Must be proficient in spoken and written English
  • Must have near vision correctable at 13"" to 16"" and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other
  • Must have ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously
  • Must have near depth perception
  • Must have hearing (aid permitted)
  • Must have emotional stability
  • Must have mental stability
  • Must have ability to work closely with others
  • Must have ability to work alone

Duties

  • Evaluating - diagnosis - consulting - and ordering diagnostic studies
  • Provides fact-to-face and Tele-dermatology care/consultation
  • Performs surgical and non-surgical Dermatology procedures on the skin and to particular skin lesions as appropriate on all ages who have presented with injuries or diseases of the disorders of the integumentary system (skin - mouth - external genitalia - hair - and nails.)
  • Provides consultative series on patients referred from other sections of the Hospital and affiliated outpatient clinics
  • Provides emergency Dermatology services/coverage as assigned
  • Performs the administrative components of patient care management - such as:
  • Will be actively involved in teaching residents and students and will periodically direct Noon Conferences for their didactic training
  • Participates in the educational programs for Dermatology and physician personnel as well as the medical staff
  • Participates in monitoring the quality - safety and appropriateness of patient care
  • Demonstrates ethical conduct and serves as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization
  • Participates in the quality assurance programs and chart reviews
  • Completes medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff
  • Participates in the Medical Staff committee assignments
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Chief of Medicine
  • In the performance of official duties - the Dermatology Physician will have regular access to printed and electronic files containing sensitive data which must be protected under the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws - federal regulations - VA statues and policy - and VHA policy
  • Physicians will be responsible for protecting the data from unauthorized release or from loss and or alteration - or unauthorized deletion
  • Miscellaneous activities of the Medical Service including committee assignments - QA activities - and other special projects that help fulfill and/or enhance the mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs as assigned by the Chief - Dermatology Section - Medical Service or West Palm Beach VAMC Executive Leadership
  • Attends Medicine Service monthly staff meetings and Medical/Dental quarterly staff meetings
  • Completes CME activities and VA continuing educational activities
  • Works schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00 a.m- 4:30 p.m. (Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisorThe incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).
