Physician - Dermatologist

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Qualifications

• To qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.
• Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
• Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
• The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
• Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Additional Requirement

• Pro proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with management of complex medical dermatology conditions - working with trainees - with inpatient dermatology consultative medicine - participation in departmental research and quality improvement initiatives - experience with teledermatology - trainee education outside of direct patient care.
• Successful completion of ACGME accredited dermatology training program - board eligible/certified in dermatology and participation in maintenance of certification.

Duties

• Provide high-quality dermatologic care in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
• Serve as a supervisor for resident physicians.
• Collaborate with physicians in other subspecialties.
• Perform inpatient Dermatology consults.
• Engage in clinical case discussions - didactics educational sessions - journal clubs - cutaneous oncology tumor board - and to conduct teaching rounds.
• Evaluate resident performance and provide constructive feedback to facilitate learning and professional development.
• Perform clinical and translational research which include a close working relationship with VA Research Center and affiliate institutions includes Tulane School of Medicine and LSU School of Medicine.
• Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00am - 4:30pm - subject to change based on the needs of the facility.
• Weekly commute is expected for staffing clinic in surrounding CBOC facilities.
