Physician - Critical Care Pulmonologist

University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Lexington, KY – Full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine.

About the role

The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine within the Department of Internal Medicine seeks a clinical faculty member whose primary duties are clinical service, divided between hospital-based and outpatient settings at Chandler and Good Samaritan UK HealthCare Hospitals. The role includes clinical and didactic teaching of pulmonary and critical care fellows, residents, and students, as well as leadership in division and department clinical activities and service on clinical committees.

Beyond clinical responsibilities, there are opportunities for professional development in medical education, clinical and translational research, and clinical operations. The division has active NIH-funded research programs in circadian biology, ICU rehabilitation, airway disease, and pulmonary fibrosis, and participates in numerous clinical trials related to lung disease.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical care in both hospital-based and outpatient settings at UK HealthCare Hospitals.
• Teach and mentor pulmonary and critical care fellows, residents, and medical students through clinical and didactic instruction.
• Lead and participate in division and department clinical activities.
• Serve on clinical committees to enhance patient care and clinical operations.
• Engage in professional development opportunities, including medical education, research, and clinical operations.

Requirements

• MD or equivalent degree.
• Completion of residency in Internal Medicine.
• Completion of fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
• Board certified in Internal Medicine.
• Board eligible in Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine.

The Department of Internal Medicine is the largest in the College of Medicine and at the University of Kentucky, with approximately 334 faculty, 157 staff, 214 residents and fellows, and 203 advanced practice providers. The department includes 14 clinical divisions and 2 non-clinical divisions, securing over $35 million in annual grant funding for research across all internal medicine subspecialties. In the past year, the department published 287 peer-reviewed articles and maintains over 50 active clinical trials and 240 active grants and contracts. The department is led by Dr. Darwin L.
