About the role

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat urological conditions in veteran patients through comprehensive evaluation, medical management, and surgical interventions when necessary.
  • Perform a wide range of urological surgical procedures with precision and proficiency, ensuring patient safety and successful outcomes.
  • Congduct patient consultations, communicating diagnosis and treatment plans effectively, and addressing patient concerns with empathy and understanding.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including surgeons, physicians, nurses, and support staff, to ensure integrated and patient-centered care.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation to provide timely response and care for urgent urological cases, ensuring continuous coverage for patients' needs.
  • Educate patients and their families about urological conditions, treatment options, and post-operative care, promoting informed decision-making and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting patient encounters, procedures, and treatment plans in accordance with VA policies and guidelines.
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives, participating in peer review activities, and adhering to evidence-based practices.
  • Adhere to all VA regulations, ethical standards, and clinical protocols to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, and ethical patient care.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in urological medicine, attend relevant conferences, and pursue ongoing professional development to enhance clinical experience.
  • Manage administrative duties as Chief, including overseeing Quality Improvement processes, ensuring compliance of surgeons and urology team with VA benchmarks and metrics, optimizing the delivery of Urologic care at the VA, and overseeing Urology residents who rotate at the VA.

Requirements

The position requires a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the United States. Additional requirements include residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, and adherence to VA regulations, ethical standards, and clinical protocols.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
