MaineHealth Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME, is recruiting for a Physician Associate (PA) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) to join our Medical Critical Care (NCC) team. This position offers a full-time day/night rotating schedule. Portland combines urban sophistication with small-town friendliness, providing four-season recreational opportunities such as skiing, hiking, sailing, and access to beautiful beaches. Located just two hours north of Boston, the area is diverse and vibrant, with excellent restaurants and schools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily rounds on patients alongside fellows, residents, and students.
  • Develop and implement care plans, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and perform procedures.
  • Manage admissions, discharges, and family meetings.
  • Participate in research and quality initiatives for Medical Critical Care, Neuro Critical Care, and/or Surgical Critical Care patients.
  • Engage in educational opportunities, including critical care grand rounds, teaching rounds, journal club, case conferences, and morbidity and mortality reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and Master’s Degree required.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Associate or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Postgraduate training program in critical care or related specialty, or equivalent experience.
  • Current license issued by the State of Maine or eligibility for licensure.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Desire to be a lifelong learner, teacher, and part of an interdisciplinary care team.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $136,536 to $176,694 annually, based on the candidate’s level of experience. Total compensation packages may include shift differentials, productivity-based incentives, quality incentives, and other premiums.
