Physician Assistant - Transplant Nephrology

About the role

Don't miss this opportunity to join WashU's Nephrology Transplant team! Our team consists of 3 APPs in the outpatient setting and 1 APP in the inpatient setting. In outpatient, the APP sees their patients independently. For inpatient, the APP collaborates with Nephrology and Transplant Fellows. They will evaluate patients for kidney and pancreas transplant as well as manage immunosuppressant medication and post-transplant care. The APP will have 3 months of inpatient service and 9 months outpatient. When outpatient, the APP will do 6 to 7 clinics per week with 3 half days of no clinical duties. The APP is expected to see 7 to 8 patients in the post-transplant clinic and 5 patients in pre-transplant clinic. No nights or weekends!

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs physical assessments/examinations.
  • Affords and counsels patients and obtains medical histories.
  • Maintains patient's adherence to protocols.
  • Collaborates in screening for research studies.
  • Develops and implements adherence plans used with protocols.
  • Bills for professional services as permitted by the collaborative practice agreement.
  • Interprets diagnostic tests results for deviations from normal.
  • Prescribes therapy or medication with physician approval.
  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram and laboratory test.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care and infection management.
  • Provides physicians with assistance during surgery or complicated medical procedures.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings and workshops.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objective, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Job Location/Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Requires protective devices. Patient care setting. Direct patient care setting. Physical Effort: Typically sitting at desk or table. Typically standing or walking. Typically bending, crouching, stooping. Occasional lifting (25 lbs or less).

Education

Required Qualifications: Master's degree - Physician Assistant Studies. Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, Basic Life Support - American Red Cross, Physician Assistant - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Physician Assistant - Missouri Division of Professional Registration.

Required Qualifications

  • Current PA licensure to practice in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, or ability to obtain within three months of date of hire.

  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
