Physician / Assistant Professor - Emergency Medicine (Hillsboro Medical Center)

About the Role

The OHSU Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) is seeking a full-time physician to join the team at Hillsboro Medical Center, a community emergency department with 37,000 annual visits. Located on the west side of Portland/Hillsboro in an agricultural region, the department treats a wide variety of pathologies and serves a large Latino and pediatric population. The hospital is a stroke center with a cardiac catheterization lab and is undergoing major transformation, with many OHSU Marquam Hill departments now providing specialty services.

Hillsboro Medical Center blends academic and community emergency medicine, hosting upper-level emergency medicine, internal medicine, and family medicine residents. A 9-bed observation unit, managed by OHSU DEM and opened in February 2023, provides ongoing care for patients with an anticipated length of stay of 8-48 hours. The interdisciplinary team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, and technicians, with 24/7 attending physician support.

Responsibilities

• Staff the Hillsboro Medical Center Emergency Department as assigned by the Chair.
• Participate in Emergency Department quality assurance activities.
• Provide on-line medical consultation.

Requirements

• MD or equivalent degree; completion of an Emergency Medicine Residency.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
• ABEM or ABOEM Board certified or board eligible.
• Current unlimited Oregon MD (or equivalent) license prior to start date.
• Completion of the credentialing process and approval by the OHSU Professional Board to practice as an independent practitioner in an acute care/emergency setting.
• Registration with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and authorization to prescribe medications prior to start date.

Skills

• Demonstrated ability to satisfy standards of performance delineated by law.
• Ability to manage a heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in computing hardware and software, including electronic medical records, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
• Regular and consistent attendance at work.
