Physician Assistant Primary Care

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. No routine call or weekend requirements. Patient volume: approximately 18 patients per day.

About the role

Join an established Enhanced Care Team (ECT) model focused on collaborative, patient-centered care. Care for patients across the lifespan with a mix of new patient visits, established patient follow-ups, acute/same-day visits, and preventive care. Individual in-basket management is supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team.

• Suturing
• Incision & drainage (I&D)
• Skin lesion removal
• Skin biopsies
• Pap smears
• Nexplanon insertion/removal

Support & Resources

• Work alongside an experienced care team including Medical Assistants, Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs), Patient Service Specialists (Front Desk), Community Health Workers, additional APPs, and Physicians.
• New graduates are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Assess the physical and mental condition of patients by performing comprehensive or problem-focused physical exams and obtaining medical histories.
• Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
• Prescribe, recommend, or use medical drug therapies or other treatments.
• Perform procedures following approved protocols, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost.
• Recommend interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.
• Create and carry out detailed patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and care standards.
• Collaborate with physicians and team members when needed.
• Evaluate patient’s response to health care provided and the effectiveness of care.
• Counsel patients and families regarding medical processes, management of the health illness/condition, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
• Counsel patients about drug regimens and possible side effects, including interactions with substances like food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
• Maintain appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes.
• Initiate timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope or expertise.
• Provide consultation-level services for conditions/problems related to the provider’s specialty and training.
• Perform invasive procedures specific to scope of practice as delegated by supervising Physician.
• May provide care to patients in a team-based model, focusing on acute and chronic illness management and population health.

Requirements

• Knowledge of information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities, including symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
• Knowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.

• Skill in the use of computers and related software applications.
• Ability to develop and implement comprehensive outcomes-based patient treatment plans.
• Ability to counsel patients concerning medical and psychological/psychiatric conditions, treatment plans, and behavior modification.
• Ability to interpret and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
• Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas.
• Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire or transfer.
• Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA).

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Less than 1 year of experience.
