Physician Assistant Primary Care

0.9 FTE schedule with 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week on an alternating rotation:

• Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
• Week 2: Thursday, Friday, Saturday

Average patient volume: 18–23 patients per day.

About the Role

Enhanced Care Team (ECT) model with strong physician and APP collaboration. Dedicated support staff includes Medical Assistants, LVNs, RNs, and Patient Service Specialists (Front Desk).

Opportunity to care for new and established patients in acute/same-day visits, chronic disease management, and preventive care/wellness visits. Shared and individual in-basket management.

Procedural opportunities include:

• Pap smears
• Joint injections
• Skin lesion removal
• Laceration repair
• IUD and Nexplanon procedures
• Ingrown toenail removal
• Incision & drainage (I&D)
• Skin biopsies

Training provided for applicable procedures. Outpatient Epic environment with no hospital rounding required.

New Graduate Support

Responsibilities

• Assess the physical and mental condition of patients by performing comprehensive or problem-focused physical exams and obtaining medical histories.
• Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
• Prescribe, recommend, or use medical drug therapies or other treatments.
• Perform procedures following approved protocols, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost.
• Recommend interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.
• Create and carry out detailed patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and care standards. Collaborate with physicians and team members when needed.
• Evaluate patient’s response to health care provided and the effectiveness of care.
• Counsel patients and families regarding medical processes, management of the health illness/condition, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
• Counsel patients about drug regimens and possible side effects, including interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
• Maintain appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. Initiate timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope or expertise.
• Provide consultation-level services for conditions/problems related to the provider’s specialty and training.
• Perform invasive procedures specific to scope of practice as delegated by supervising physician.
• May provide care to patients in a team-based model, focusing on acute and chronic illness management and population health.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer.
• Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA).
• Less than 1 year of experience accepted; open to new graduates.

• Knowledge of information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities, including symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
• Knowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.
