PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT - ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY
About the role
Tri-State Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is looking for a full-time Orthopaedic Physician Assistant to work alongside 15 PAs—14 Ortho PAs (including a "Coverage PA" to cover vacations and provide additional help in the OR) plus 1 Hospital PA dedicated to hospital rounds/medical records. The position offers the opportunity to connect with people on a one-on-one basis, as well as work with physicians in various orthopaedic subspecialties.
Responsibilities
- First assist at surgery
- H&Ps
- Assist in the office with the full spectrum of patient care, including ultrasound-guided injections, casting/splinting, postoperative management, follow-up care, patient messages, EMR documentation, and injection clinics
- Assist with hospital rounding and orthopaedic consults
- Call is currently 1 in 16; physicians take first call for ER/Hospitals and PAs take first call for patient calls/messages
- Weekend and holiday call consists of rounds and assisting with any add-on cases; weekday evening call is minimal and usually entails answering patient messages
- Opportunity to staff Tri-State Ortho Urgent Care hours (optional but encouraged; paid separately)
Requirements
- Minimum of two years of PA experience preferred
- Surgical experience and orthopaedic knowledge required
- Prior orthopaedic experience strongly preferred
- Candidates must be organized, detail-oriented, caring and passionate about patient care, and possess good bedside manner and excellent interpersonal skills
- EMR experience required
Location & travel
Tri-State has four office locations in the Pittsburgh area: McCandless, Seven Fields, Robinson Township, and Fox Chapel. We are on staff at UPMC Passavant, UPMC St. Margaret's, and AHN Wexford hospitals, as well as the outpatient surgery centers at UPMC Harmar, AHN Wexford, and Pittsburgh Orthopaedic Surgical Suites. Travel to all offices/hospitals is required.
