About the role
The Johns Hopkins Department of Orthopaedic Surgery seeks a Physician Assistant to join their team.
Responsibilities
- Interview patients and compile patient medical histories to determine health status.
- Perform physical examinations, noting normal and abnormal findings.
- Obtain specimens, run routine laboratory tests, perform diagnostic tests, and order non-routine tests as required.
- Analyze and evaluate patient history, physical examination findings, and laboratory values to make preliminary diagnoses for review by the supervising physician.
- Develop and implement care/treatment plans according to established protocols and procedures, consulting with the supervising physician and other professionals.
- Assist in surgical procedures, including starting IV lines, applying casts, and suturing cuts and wounds.
- Prepare patients for surgery, shave, scrub, and drape the surgical field, and insert monitoring equipment.
- Write post-operative orders, including laboratory tests, medications, and care plans, for review by the supervising physician.
- Attend medical rounds to monitor patient progress and provide information to staff on care plans, conditions, and patient progress.
- Provide education and guidance to patients and family members on maintaining good health, disease prevention, and home care.
- Attend regularly scheduled continuing education programs to stay current with procedures and healthcare plans and protocols.
- Facilitate communication between the team and other consulting medical services, request consultations as necessary, and act as a liaison with other medical services.
- Provide first or second assist in the operating room, remove and reinforce sutures, and evaluate wounds, change dressings, and perform wound care.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body.
- Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program.
- Licensed as a PA in the State of Maryland or another state where practicing.
- Current CPR certification required.

- Must maintain current licensure and certification during the duration of employment.

$100,000 - $152,900 Annually ($125,000 targeted; commensurate with experience)
