About the role
The University of Maryland Faculty Practice is seeking a Physician Assistant to join their hospitalist program at the Downtown Campus. This position will work alongside over 40 hospitalists who specialize in general internal medicine, transplant patients, and medical consultations.
Responsibilities
- Work 12-hour night shifts with a rotating schedule of nights on and off, including weekends.
- Function as a primary admittor, rounder, consultant, and discharger for general internal medicine patients, transplant patients, and medical consultations.
- Provide care for patients in a tertiary care facility, coordinate medical care, and educate future physician assistants.
- Engage in patient safety and quality improvement projects across the School of Medicine and with the University of Maryland Medical Center.
- Visits pre- and post-operative patients, monitors patient progress, and relays any problems or concerns to the attending physician or supervising physician.
- Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, and special tests, and writes orders including narcotics, stimulants, and depressant drugs as necessary.
Requirements
- Graduation from an approved Physician Assistant Training Program.
- National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification required.
- Licensure by the Maryland State Board of Physicians as a Physician’s Assistant.
- CPR and BLS certifications required.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
- Ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
Skills
- Knowledge of point of care ultrasound for peripheral line placement and exams.
- Experience with inpatient training for Physician Assistant students.
- Experience with patient safety and quality improvement projects.

Exact salary will depend on multiple factors including the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor, and span of control.
