Physician Assistant - Duke Orthopaedic Surgery - Trauma: Durham, NC

About the Role

Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC, is seeking a Physician Assistant for Duke Orthopaedic Surgery – Trauma to provide direct patient care services in collaboration with the attending physician for patients requiring Trauma Orthopedic care. The PA will augment a physician's ability to provide medical services to patients in the clinic.

Responsibilities

• Provide care for patients needing Trauma Orthopedic Care with the physician in clinic as well as responsible and accountable for independent patient load/clinic.
• Coordinate patient care including triage, physical exams, collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and scheduling laboratory studies.
• May be involved in assisting with peri-operative workflow including scheduling, pre-ops, and post-op follow-up, diagnostic procedures and professional consultations, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications.
• Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising physician, nursing staff, patient resource manager, home health agency, and other relevant healthcare providers.
• Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients' condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with physician colleagues.
• Respond to patient inquiries and concerns via telephone or EPIC MyChart messages and be accessible to consult with supervising physician as needed.
• Analyze clinical practice patterns so as to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.

Experience

Prefer Orthopedics work experience as a Physician Assistant. If a new graduate, Orthopedics clinical rotations during your education program.

Schedule

Primary hours will be Monday through Friday with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.

Qualifications

• Education: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
• Certification: BLS required.
• License: Must be licensed in the state of NC and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. DEA license required.
