Physician Assistant Cardiac Surgery Inpatient Rotating BWH

About the role

Cardiac Surgery PA inpatient position working 13-hour days, rotating days/nights in the cardiac surgery ICU and step-down units, working with cardiac surgeons and ICU staff. The BWH Cardiac Surgery Service is a 24/7 PA run service, therefore, working a rotation of nights, weekends, and holidays is required.

Work location: 75 Francis Street (onsite). Employee type: Regular. Scheduled weekly hours: 40.

Responsibilities

• Assessment and management of medical and/or surgical patient populations, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation
• Provide direct care, counseling, and teaching to designated patient populations in ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural settings
• Perform complete histories and physical examinations
• Order, interpret, and evaluate appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests
• Develop appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings
• Order medications and write prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures
• Consistently provide high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries
• Perform bedside procedures appropriate to the patient population

Qualifications

• Education: Master's Degree in Physician Assistant required (experience cannot substitute for degree)
• Licenses & Credentials: Physician Assistant State License required
• Experience: 2+ years as a PA preferred; outstanding new graduates or candidates with less than 2 years experience will be considered

Skills

• Thorough knowledge of clinical surgical practices and procedures for cardiothoracic patients
• Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings
• Ability to maintain quality control standards
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
• Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures
• Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public

Pay

Starting annual base salary for inpatient cardiac surgery tier PA: $143,874. Pay range: $143,874 - (Grade 7).
