Physician Assistant - Breast Surgery (The Woodlands)

Physician Assistant (PA) (ACLS) at Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group provides diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical and preventative care under physician supervision. The role involves examining, diagnosing, and treating patients—including interpreting x‑rays and lab results, writing prescriptions, taking histories, assisting in surgery, and ordering various therapies—in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree and graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program approved by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• Experience: Minimum of one year of clinical experience.
• Licenses and Certifications:
  • PA – State licensure (Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation).
  • PA‑C – Certified by NCCPA.
  • BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (American Heart Association).
  • ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (American Heart Association).
  • DEA – Narcotics license (to be obtained within 6 months of hire).

• Demonstrates skills and competencies required for safe performance of assigned duties, validated through ongoing assessments.
• Proficient in spoken, written, and reading English, especially for patient and employee safety communications.
• Effective communication with patients, physicians, families, and co‑workers, employing customer‑service focus and positive language.
• Critical thinking and clinical judgment to work autonomously as defined by the Texas Board of Physician Assistants.
• Accountability for healthcare outcomes and use of therapeutic communication to collaborate on care plans.
• Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
• Judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional teams, patients, and families.

Essential Functions

• People: Serve as a clinical resource, inter‑professional consultant, and patient advocate; participate in rounding, interdisciplinary meetings, and staff coaching; act as first call for hospital staff; precept PA students and medical residents; promote teamwork and balanced workloads.
• Service: Coordinate timely patient care across providers; improve patient‑satisfaction scores; respond to patient inquiries and emergencies; collaborate on quality health‑care delivery.
• Quality/Safety: Perform independent or delegated diagnostic, prescriptive, and therapeutic functions per guidelines; review medications and test results; conduct comprehensive health assessments; execute safe procedures; assist in protocol development and patient‑safety initiatives.
• Finance: Document accurately and timely in medical records with appropriate diagnosis and CPT coding; support department financial targets through efficient documentation, reduced length of stay, and resource‑aware care.
• Growth/Innovation: Identify and implement innovative solutions to improve patient care and departmental operations; participate in projects, committees, research, presentations, and publications; mentor staff development and maintain an active development plan.

Supplemental Requirements

• Uniform: Business professional attire required; no scrubs.
• On‑call: May be required for emergencies (e.g., disaster, severe weather).
• Travel: May require travel within the Houston metropolitan area and occasionally outside the area.
