About the Role
Under direct supervision of a licensed Therapist, the Physical Therapy Tech supports and maintains a smooth flow of activity on the clinic floor. Responsibilities include ensuring overall cleanliness of the clinic and equipment, compliance with Therapy Partners Group policies and HIPAA regulations, and fostering a team environment. The position requires strong customer service skills to maintain professional relationships with patients and employees.
Responsibilities
Patient Care Duties
- Assist the licensed therapist in providing quality treatment to patients, including preparing treatment tables, equipment, and modalities as prescribed.
- Prepare patients for therapy by welcoming, comforting, and directing them to the treatment area.
- Notify the treating therapist of any relevant patient comments regarding treatment or condition.
- Follow exercise flow sheets, initiate next steps in treatment, and keep the supervising therapist informed of patient progression.
- Assist in patient treatment by applying ice or heat packs, helping patients onto exercise equipment, monitoring motion, and performing prescribed exercises.
- Educate patients on proper use of equipment and exercise routines.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and a safe, clean working environment.
- Sterilize and deliver equipment and supplies to the treatment area.
- Complete preventive maintenance on physical therapy equipment and report issues to therapists.
Office Duties
- Answer phones promptly and professionally.
- Accept and process new patient referrals, including gathering necessary information.
- Schedule new and current patients efficiently.
- Assist with filing paperwork and correspondence.
- Fax therapist correspondence to physicians.
- Check in new patients, explain paperwork, and accept payments.
- Follow up with patients who no-show, stop attending, or need scheduling.
General/Housekeeping Duties
- Open the facility each morning and prepare it for patient arrival.
- Wash and dry linens to maintain adequate stock.
- Monitor and maintain physical therapy supplies inventory.
- Maintain overall tidiness of the facility to create a clean, inviting atmosphere.
- Ensure hot pack machines are filled with clean water daily, ice machine is defrosted monthly, and cleaning/temperature logs are maintained.
- Clean treatment mats and equipment with disinfectant after every use.
- Empty trash nightly and perform light vacuuming as needed.
- Enhance the department’s reputation by accepting ownership of new requests and exploring opportunities to add value.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent; college degree in a related health field preferred.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Prior experience in customer service.
Skills
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and organize multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Active listening skills, including asking clarifying questions and soliciting feedback.
- Problem-solving and teamwork abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and stretching; some sitting.
- Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate office equipment (keyboard, mouse, photocopier, telephone, calculator).
- Normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and present reports.
- Travel may be required for Per Diem roles; no travel required for permanent positions.
