Position Overview
The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) supports the delivery of high-quality rehabilitative care under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. This role focuses on implementing individualized treatment plans that improve residents’ mobility, reduce pain, enhance strength, and restore physical function. The PTA collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure consistent, resident-centered therapy.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver physical therapy interventions as outlined in the treatment plan developed by the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Absorb residents with therapeutic exercises, gait training, and functional mobility activities to improve strength, balance, and independence.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and engaging therapeutic environment that encourages resident participation and comfort.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to care planning discussions to ensure coordinated, resident-centered care.
- Accurately document treatment sessions, resident performance, and observations in accordance with facility policies and regulatory standards.
- Adhere to HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control protocols to ensure compliance and resident safety.
- Maintain open communication with the supervising Physical Therapist, interdisciplinary care team, and resident care staff to support continuity of care.
- Assist in maintaining therapy equipment and supplies, reporting any issues promptly to ensure a safe and efficient therapy environment.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
- Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant
- 1–2 years of experience in a skilled nursing facility or geriatric care setting preferred
- Familiarity with PDPM and SNF therapy documentation standards is a plus
